My process is insight-led, meaning that I use the users or customers perspective in order to make design decisions. This can also take on another meaning in a different context, such as using data to make decisions.
With my marketing & business acumen, I understand that the lifeblood of any business is rooted in research and understanding the data. With that being said, I also use this as a driver for design decisions and business development decisions.
With clients, I’m on kickoff calls asking as many questions as possible with a curious mind. My aim is to learn as much as I can about their experiences, perspectives, goals, and ultimately their vision and why their project matters to them.
I believe as designers we need to keep an open mind and an open heart. Working with clients, many are taking a leap of faith. With big companies, many have their jobs tied to results. We hold a responsibility of some of this risk as well. This is why I built and I believe in people-first operations.

Business is competitive, therefore analysis is a must to understand where a client differentiates themselves against the other companies in the market. Without this, we could be missing out of user expectations, errors in competitor websites, and areas of focus where I think we could have the edge.
“Design and listen” is more of a disciplinary concept. With all of the above steps, I go put the insights, answers, research findings, and analysis to work to come up with a design that balances taste, purpose, and functionality. The listen aspect comes into play when listening in for feedback, remaining curious and comfortable. It’s nothing personal, we’re only working towards the goal.
